Nashville Scene

Jewly Hight of our weekly paper here in Nashville, The Scene, wrote an article about us this week where among other nice things she said:

"Computer vs. Banjo self-released their eponymous debut this summer—12 tracks layered with sun-dazed melodies, electronic whirs and blips and the occasional mandolin picking or clawhammer-style banjo frailing."

The Sharp End

Our song "Give Up On Ghosts" will be featured in a new film entitled "The Sharp End." We're excited to be a part of it, and even more excited about the fact that our friends Pictures and Sound + Ki:Theory also have music used in the film as well. The movie will be premiering at film festivals this month. Check out the trailer:

cvb.sept.

4 weeks of intense composing, recording, and editing have yielded a nice batch of material for a new mtv show. lots of late nights, busted hard drives, and mass creativity have us both looking forward to a much needed recharge before diving into a writing period for our next record.

yesterday, we received word that our debut album was on the cmj top 200 chart for the ninth straight week! thanks to everyone who helped make that happen.

some good records dropped recently:

brazilian girls "new york city"
dr.dog "fate"
flying lotus "los angeles"
avett bros. "second gleam"

in other news...
computer vs. banjo is going into the organic farming business. well...let's just say that the nc farm could prove a worthy distraction to any mountain writing/recording adventures. spinach, kale, cabbage, and snow peas are all major players in the fall crop. i'm sure that we will find a way to sample the crop in some sort of audio format.

Pictures And Sound/Jerry Douglas

Two new releases that came out today, featuring friends of CVB, that you should check out:

Pictures And Sound "Pictures And Sound":

The new album featuring Luke Reynolds. CVB and Luke constantly bummed instruments, cars, food, conversations, and laughter from each other over the past few years as our albums were being put together in many different studios and homes throughout Nashville. Luke and the boys made a great record. Here's a link to check it out:

http://www.myspace.com/picturesandsoundmusic

Jerry Douglas "Glide":

Todd Parks (bass) played on this record. He also played on our record, and is one amazing dude. Luke Bulla (Blue Merle) is yet another friend of ours (phenomenal fiddler/singer) who is also in the Jerry Douglas Band. Here's a link to get your JD on:

Quick CVB Update:

College Radio has been really kind to us, as we have now been on the CMJ Top 200 for 6 straight weeks. Many thanks to everyone for their support.

CVB friends Ki:Theory, Ninja Simone, K Ishibashi, Designer Drugs, and others have done remixes of our album tracks which we are planning to release in the fall.

Adios from Nashville (the summer home of iced coffee),

nashville summer

The heat has subsided, at least temporarily here in Tennessee and we have slowly begun to venture out of our climate controlled home studio. The album has spent the last five weeks charting at college radio. Thanks to everyone spinning it and requesting our music on their local stations.

In other happenings, we have been hired to compose instrumental pieces for a new show on MTV. Just getting our heads around it all. Cool stuff. We will keep you posted.

We are back in Nashville putting together files of album material for a hand full of kickass remixer/djs to do their electronica take on our songs. We hope to have an ep ready in a few months to sell exclusively through iTunes. Excited to say that Ki: Theory will be taking a stab at 'Giving up on Ghosts'. He is a great musical mind and has recently done remixes for The Brazilian Girls, Unkle, Sasha and Queens of the Stone Age.
Lots of exciting blog stuff going around right now for us. . . here is a link to an NPR piece.

spaceland, hollywood, and beyond

so beau and i met up at lax yesterday and, within minutes, we began discussing the age-old question of avis or alamo? after lots of shlepping we found avis was the key holder to our freshly-minted hyundai. after a dinner hang with steve in century city, we met up with amy and ninja simone down at spaceland. great night last night. it's been too long since i've walked through those doors. although, i have to say that catching that secret beck show at the echo last night wouldn't have been so bad either. ended up at the nacionale in hollywood...check out www.indie911.com today. they currently have an online listening party for us. you'll see it on the home page. many thanks to them...meeting with some folks today. looking forward to seeing some of the nash crew later on this week.

pong and the world wide web

the truth is....beating the computer is not easy. perhaps, at some point, we'll have some kind of online pong tourney. who knows?... todd overstreet and rachel heussenstamm are responsible with bringing the lo-fi glory of cvb pong to the world wide web (lots of applause)...btw,would "lots of applause" be shortened to "loa" when blogging...or would that still stand for "letter of authorization"? hopefully you got the btw...i like to think that "btw" stands for "beau took western civilization in college". on to more important things...the week is winding up. hung out with todd parks today. he's an old friend of ours who is one damn fine bass player. jerry douglas thought so too and decided to hire him to be in his band and play on his brand new cellophane wrapped compact disc that is coming out very soon. todd played bass on our record as well ("outer space" and "concealed"), and just recorded an album with frank vignola, matt flinner, and fiddle legend: casey driessen. actually, i think all of those people qualify in the "i'm incredible at my instrument, try not to drool" hall of fame. aaaannnywaaayyysss...todd and i wrote some tunes in the comfort of an air conditioned music city home. general cvb scuttlebutt: i have to say it's great to finally see "give up on ghosts" out there for folks to check out. can't wait for everyone to hear the record on june 17. los angeles looms for cvb next week. beau moved to seattle for the weekend leaving me to dwell in nashville, the newly crowned capital of global warming and general discomfort. btw (loa) :-)...it's hot here.

june moves

after a show of support for a few folks giggin' at 3rd & lindsley (nash,tn)last night, we took a bondfire into the wee hours of the morning in east nashville. lots of good comraderie in music city these days...cvb made an appearance at belmont university this morning. then, a falafel business lunch at a mediterranean restaurant with a penchant for blasting recent neil young recordings. i wonder how neil feels about tabouli, and his growing fan base of mediterranean restaurant owners? also today...cvb got to hear a new remix of magazine queen by ninja simone, a dj friend of ours from los angeles. up on myspace. check it out there. the rest of the day was spent coordinating an upcoming trek to l.a. next week to promote the record. getting lots of good vibes and support from family, friends, and the rest of our team. beau and i checked out the new No Kids record. good stuff happening in vancouver. destroyer's (dan bejar) new record is one to check out as well. ending the day with minor league baseball. the whole crew is out on this trip to the park. beau is hoping to throw the first pitch.
